The best sources of vitamin B6 are liver, nuts, poultry, fish, yeast, avocado, broccoli, peppers, bananas, pork and beef, bread, seeds, egg yolk, legumes.
The first signs of vitamin B6 deficiency are fatigue, irritability, dry mouth, depression, sleep disorders, decreased blood sugar levels, with the latter being associated with increased sensitivity to insulin. Signs of long-term deficiency are dermatitis (cracked corners of the mouth, skin lesions around the eyes), peripheral neuropathy manifested by cramps in the arms and legs, anaemia due to inhibition of hemoglobin synthesis, weight loss, homocystinuria caused by the accumulation of the amino acid homocysteine, which causes neurological and cardiovascular problems in the patient.
